Confirmation for Children registered in 2019-2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope that you have been coping well during these extra-ordinary times and that the start of the school year has been manageable.  We, as a parish community, continue to pray.  It is good for us to be reminded that even as we have been unusually distanced from each other, God remains present and active in our lives.  With that in mind, I welcome you to the celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation for your child. We are playing a bit of ‘catch-up’ as this sacrament is normally celebrated in the Spring.

All of us are acutely aware of the impact the pandemic has had on the living of our lives.  Our celebrations of Confirmation this year in the Fall will have some differences from our usual routine.

The bishops are not travelling from parish to parish this year to celebrate Confirmation so Fr. Pawel Stanciewicz, our associate pastor, and myself will be confecting the sacrament. The liturgy is simplified this year.  We will not be celebrating Confirmation with mass but instead will simply have a liturgy of the word with the celebration of the sacrament.

The parish at this time is limited to 30% of its seating capacity for attendance, so participation is limited to just immediate family and their sponsor. (one pew per family)

Please arrive at least thirty minutes prior to the celebration.  The candidates will NOT be gathering in the basement before hand. There is no procession of the candidates at the beginning, so the candidate and their family will go immediately into the church and chose a pew and then be seated.  Seating is not assigned so the earlier you arrive the better seat you get.  We ask that the candidate and their sponsor sit together at the end of the pew so they can easily stand and come forward for the sacrament.

** The wearing of face masks is mandatory in the Church.

** Confirmandi must wear a large print name tag with their first name given at birth and used at baptism as there will be no dialogue from the candidate to the priest during the anointing. Please make this at home. (Please use 24 font)

** They will not be wearing gowns over their clothes this year.  With this in mind please ensure that the candidate’s attire is suitable for the celebration of the sacrament.  Neither ‘Street clothes’ nor the highest of fashion that attracts attention are appropriate. Sunday Best.

** There is no professional photographer this year. Personal photos can be taken outside on the church grounds weather permitting or at home.  No pictures in the church, please exit the church building directly after the liturgy as we will need to sanitize for the next celebration.

May you continue to be blessed as we look forward to celebrating your child’s Confirmation.

Sincerely,

Father Lawrence Parent, Pastor
